CO.RE AWARD

Article 1 – THE ESTABLISHMENT OF THE AWARD

The CO.RE International Restoration and Conservation Award (“Premio CO.RE”), designed and promoted by the CO.RE Association and sponsored by the Regional Secretariat for Calabria’s Cultural Heritage and Landscape for the Italian Ministry of Cultural Heritage, Cultural Activities and Tourism, was created to reward and present restoration projects, research works, degree dissertations and engagements from private parties and public entities which have been able to thoughtfully interpret the conservation principles recognized by the scientific community, preserving and restoring the architectural, artistic, demo-ethno-anthropological, archival and library heritage worldwide, using ancient and/or innovative techniques, enhancing the existing heritage and preserving history also by means of contemporary expressive forms. It is the intention of the Association to grant this award on an annual basis in order to incentivize research and knowledge also in the scheduling of research and study activities.

 

Article 2 – THE AWARD

The Award will be granted to the 4 following sections on an annual basis:

• Sección I; "Obras realizadas": serán premiados los proyectos de restauración y puesta en valor arquitectónica y urbana seleccionado y realizado en los últimos cinco años por administraciones públicas a nivel local (Intendencia, Alcaldia, Regional, Provincial) como también de propiedad privada.

El premio se otorgará al propietario y/o administrador del bien restaurado, como así también al proyectista ya la empresa ejecutora.

 

• Sección II; "Proyectos elaborados como Tesis": serán premiadas las tesis de grado seleccionadas y realizadas en los últimos tres años sobre el tema de conservación y restauración.

 

• Sección III; "Proyectos elaborados como investigación": serán premiadas las investigaciones históricas, artísticas y de archivo seleccionadas y realizadas en los últimos tres años sobre el tema de la conservación y restauración;

 

• Sección IV; "Premio especial": será premiado un proyecto de restauración, conservación o puesta en valor seleccionado y realizado en los últimos tres años sobre un bien público promovido por una persona privada, el premio se le otorgará al privado.

Además se premiarán personas distinguidas por sus actividades profesionales o de investigaciones históricas, artísticas y de archivo.

Article 3 – PARTICIPATION REQUIREMENTS

Award applications for the “Developed Projects” section may be submitted by any designer or groups of designers who have designed and completed a restoration and/or conservation project over the last 5 years (the reference date will be the date of conclusion of the project) without limitation of geographical area, sizes or value.

Award applications for the “Thesis Projects” section may be submitted by any applicant or groups of applicants who have defended a dissertation over the last 3 years on completion of a degree course from the faculties of Architecture, Engineering, Humanities, Science or any equivalent educational program in Europe or outside Europe. Those who have earned a four-year or five-year degree under the old Italian university educational scheme or under equivalent schemes of foreign countries are entitled to apply for the “Degree Thesis” section.

 

Those who have completed a postgraduate course recognized by the applicable legislation of the country where the course was established/completed may apply for the “Postgraduate Research Projects” section with a Doctoral, Graduate or Master’s thesis. Award applications for the “Postgraduate Research Projects” section may be submitted by any applicant who has carried out a historical, archival or architectural research work specific to conservation and restoration projects, which, although never developed, have been contracted out by a public contracting authority, even if they were not part of a doctoral or master’s program.

The “CO.RE Award” special prize will be given by the CO.RE Presidency, at its discretion, to the candidate who has distinguished himself/herself for his/her contribution to Restoration and Conservation.

Theses with any advisor or co-advisor being a member of the Award’s Scientific Committee are not eligible.

 

Article 4 – APPLICATION PROCEDURE
Applicants should fill in and submit the relevant electronic form available on www.corecultura.org under the PREMIO CO.RE (“CO.RE AWARD”) section no later than 15.12.2018, expressing their will to participate in the Award. On or before this date, applicants should complete the registration as a member of the CO.RE Association.

The materials listed in Article 5 below should be delivered within 15.2.2019, in accordance with the procedures described in Article 6 hereafter.

 

Article 5 – MATERIALS TO BE SUBMITTED

The following materials shall be submitted as specified below:

 

DEVELOPED PROJECTS

Applicants for this section shall submit the following materials:

  • Sheet with the project’s identification details as in the attached template;

  • Summary report of maximum 2,000 characters including spaces in Italian and, if other than Italian, in the applicant’s language (the latter will be excluded from character count);

  • Technical report of maximum 15,000 characters including spaces in Italian and, if other than Italian, in the applicant’s language (the latter will be excluded from character count), clearly explaining the project’s underlying principles and describing the proposed implementing methods;

  • Description of current situation and design (plans, front views and cross-sections, design sketches, conceptual layout, photographs of mockups, if any, images, etc.) if available, or, alternatively, images and layouts describing the developed research;

  • Two A2 boards summarizing the project and presenting it in a complete and detailed manner, submitted in duplicate (two originals) and mounted on 3-mm thick light material (white colored Forex).

  • Copy of the assignment specifications or the contract (in case of private assignment) and the final acceptance certification, or, otherwise, the documentation certifying the successful completion of the project.

  • Registration form as “CO.RE member” properly filled in together with its attachments.

All the materials specified in a), b), d), e) f) of this Article shall be submitted in PDF on hard media (CD or DVD). In addition to the general copy, the research’s original files should also be included in the CD/DVD. Specifically, the items in a) should be submitted in .pdf; the items in b) and c) in .doc; the materials in d) may be sent in high resolution .jpg, .pdf; .dwg or .dxf.

 

DEGREE THESIS PROJECTS

Applicants for this section shall submit the following materials:

  • Sheet with the identification details as in the attached template and a copy of the degree certificate;

  • Summary report of maximum 5,000 characters including spaces in Italian and, if other than Italian, in the applicant’s language (the latter will be excluded from character count);

  • Up to two A2 boards summarizing the thesis and presenting it in a complete and detailed manner, submitted in duplicate (two originals) and mounted on 3-mm thick light material (white colored Forex).

  • The thesis in PDF on a separate CD Rom or DVD.

  • Registration form as “CO.RE member” properly filled in together with its attachments.

All the materials specified in a), b), c) of this Article shall be submitted in PDF on hard media (CD or DVD). Specifically, the items in a) should be submitted in .pdf; the items in b) in .doc; the materials in c) may be sent in high resolution .jpg, .pdf; .dwg or .dxf.

 

POSTGRADUATE RESEARCH PROJECTS

Applicants for this section shall submit the following materials:

  • Sheet with the identification details as in the attached template and a copy of the certificate of successful completion of the postgraduate program;

  • Summary report of maximum 5,000 characters including spaces in Italian and, if other than Italian, in the applicant’s language (the latter will be excluded from character count);

  • Up to two A2 boards summarizing the thesis and presenting it in a complete and detailed manner, submitted in duplicate (two originals) and mounted on 3-mm thick light material (white colored Forex).

  • The thesis in PDF on a separate CD Rom or DVD.

  • If a research fellowship was awarded, please attach the documents granting the fellowship and the final delivery document.

  • Registration form as “CO.RE member” properly filled in together with its attachments.

All the materials specified in a), b), c) of this Article shall be submitted in PDF on hard media (CD or DVD). Specifically, the items in a) should be submitted in .pdf; the items in b) in .doc; the materials in c) may be sent in high resolution .jpg, .pdf; .dwg or .dxf.

 

Failure to submit one or more of the required materials may result in the rejection of the application, or, the request by the Secretariat to supplement any missing material, which must, on pain of exclusion from the Award, be promptly submitted.

 

Article 6 – SUBMISSION OF THE MATERIALS

The materials listed above shall be delivered, in a closed and protected envelope, to the Award Secretariat at the registered office of the Association located at Via Francesco Belmonte, 12 - 87036 Rende, no later than 15.2.2019 . Failure to comply with such deadline or to meet the participation requirements, or non-conformity of the materials with the provisions of Article 5 of this Call for participation will cause the exclusion from the selection procedure by the Selection Board. For deliveries via postal service or courier, the reference date will be the arrival postmark date. The awarding organization shall not bear any costs or customs expenses necessary for the receipt of the envelopes. Therefore, participants are required to check all the necessary procedures for the shipment of the materials to the recipient with the chosen courier, with no charges for the recipient. The awarding organization shall have no responsibility in the event an envelope is not delivered on the ground of non-payment of additional costs or fees. Digital submission (to be made within 1.2.2019 to the email: core.onlus@gmail.com) of all the materials listed in Article 5 via large format email systems is admitted (and strongly recommended) in order to eliminate the environmental impact associated with materials’ packaging and transportation and to avoid issues (especially during customs transit procedures with non-EU countries and Switzerland) that usually result in high shipping costs. This submission method is subject to payment of a fixed, all-inclusive fee of €100.00, which will be used by the awarding organization to pay the costs for the technical management of the files and the high resolution printing of the materials on photographic paper with mounting on rigid display boards, while the shipment via couriers is free-of-charge. 

The payment of the fee shall be made no later than 15.2.2019 in accordance with the methods specified on the Award official website (www.corecultura.org) in the registration section.

Article 7 – SELECTION BOARD and SCIENTIFIC COMMITTEE

The Selection Board will be composed of members appointed by CO.RE President, having consulted the Presidency Committee. The Award’s Scientific Committee will consist of prominent professionals in the Conservation and Restoration fields. It will be made up of the members of the CO.RE Scientific Committee and other members directly appointed by CO.RE President. The Scientific Committee will be responsible for setting out the Award’s guidelines and steering the Award; the Selection Board will have the responsibility to set out the selection criteria and award prizes and grants. All the members of both the Selection Board and the Scientific Committee will be renowned professionals, professors and researchers in the sectors specific to each Award category: The Scientific Committee will be chaired by CO.RE President. 

 

Article 8 – COMMUNICATION OF THE OUTCOMES

The outcomes of the selection with the winners and the other special prize awardees will be communicated to all participants within November 2018; The awarding minutes and the motivation for the awarded prizes will also be disclosed through the Association’s official website www.corecultura.org and on the specialized press. The Association will also commit to giving added value to the Award’s results and disseminating the presented and selected projects by providing them with utmost visibility through conference and publishing initiatives to confirm the importance of discussion and sharing of ideas and methodologies.

Article 9 – PRESENTATION AND PUBLICATION OF THE AWARDED WORKS

The awardees will be invited to present their research or restoration projects during a study day organized by CO.RE in Rende (Italy), at the end of which the award ceremony will take place. The study day, in the presence of the Selection Board and the authorities, will be structured based on the Award sections, with a 15-minute presentation for each winner. Speakers will be enabled to project images and/or videos for their presentations. Participation expenses will be borne by participants.

The Selection Board may, depending on the financial availability or the quality of the presented materials, decide to reward more than one participant for each section and award an ex-aequo prize, or include special honorable mentions entitling recipients to present their works during the final event and/or display the abstract in an ad-hoc exhibition space.

Projects, theses and research works ranking second and third, along with those ranking first and those receiving a special mention, will be entitled to be published by, and at the expense of, CO.RE as a special edition of the CO.RE publication series with international distribution. The presentation of works and the award ceremony will be held on 19 and 20 APRIL 2019

 

Article 10 – PARTICIPATION TERMS

By submitting the required documents for the admission to the competition, participants in the Award shall:

  • declare under their responsibility to be the exclusive holders of the copyrights to the presented works;

  • agree and adhere to the terms set forth herein;

  • agree to waive the return of the submitted materials;

  • authorize CO.RE Association, the Award promoter, to use and disclose the contents of the projects developed as theses in order to be published, in whole or in part, on paper or digitally, also for advertising purposes, with acknowledgement of source, without expecting anything in return in connection with copyrights;

  • undertake to hold CO.RE Association harmless against any complaints, claims or judgments relating to the contents of the projects developed as degree theses used and disclosed for the publications referred to in the paragraph above;

 

The Award’s managing body reserves the right to make any necessary change for the best carrying out of the Award, as well as any request to supplement any missing material.
